E36 325i - just off idle flatspot

Do all 325i s, or any other M50 2.5l, engines suffer from an above idle
flatspot. When I try and accelerate out of a junction, if I don't slip the
clutch in first, to get the revs up, the car becomes very sluggish. Is there
an ECU instrumentation fault ? I guess not, otherwise the fault diagnosis
computer would tell me. Is there a solution ?
