I just went down and started tinkering, and noticed that there is some sort
of adjustment screw on the top of the t-stat housing. What is this????
Could this doohicky just need some adjustment? Also, when the engine was
warm (as warm as it gets anyway) my radiator fan seems to spin freely, then
bounce-back when when spun. I can turn it past where it bounces fairly
easily. But I'm wondering if the fan being off balance would screw up the
fan clutch.

<< Hello Folks,
My 89 325i seems to be running very chilly. I just got the A/C working
again, (with R-134 conversion), and the engine coolant temp guage is barely
out of the Blue section. It was running at a little under a 1/4 of the
guage, but now it seems to be dropping some. The outside temp did drop
about
20 degrees in the past couple days, but. . .
How reliable are the temp guages on these cars? Would a T-stat being stuck
open cause this perhaps?
Also, how quickly would a fan missing two blades start damaging other
components because of lack of balance? THe missing blades are separated by
one intact blade, if that says how off balanced it is. The fan originally
was an 11 blade fan I believe. I have the replacement, just haven't had
time
to put it on yet.
