Yes, there was an E34 M5 touring available in Europe. We couldn't even get
a 525iT/530iT in the US with a 5-speed! It sucks!
During my recent trip to Germany with BMWCCA (Munich & Nurburgring), one of
the US members took delivery of a beautiful blue M5 touring. He was going
to bring it back to the US. He said that it would be relatively easy to
federalize because the M5 sedan was imported into the US, so the DOT, EPA,
etc. standards for the M55 sedan would apply to the touring.
Considering that he took delivery of the car during the week that we were at
the Nurburgring, he quickly learned how to make it fly around the track!
