Clearcoat spots?

I recently took my new BMW 330Ci in to my local Delta Sonic Car wash
place, and had them do a hand wax. They used a random orbital buffer
wheel to apply the wax and hand buffed it off.

When it was done, I noticed what appeared to be water spots still on
the car. Sure these would have come off if they were water spots, I
asked about it, and the guy said it was likely the clearcoat. He said
that it may be sun damage to the clearcoat, probably from leaving the
car outside after a rain or something. But he also said that
shouldn't have happened within the month and a half I've owned the
car, particularly since I garage it at home, and it spent 3 weeks in
a shop for a stereo install. He went on about how car companies don't
provide good quality finishes anymore, but since BMW goes to so much
trouble to ship the cars in enclosed trucks, and the quality shows
all over, I doubt this is the case unless something went wrong in
production during the painting process.

So my question is, has anyone seen this problem? What is the cause? I
intend to bring it to my dealer, but wanted to know more about it
before I do that. It is all over the roof and rear trunk deck, and
probably elsewhere, but those are the areas I saw it that night.
