wasn't dust in euro headlights

I got to have a closer look at my recently acquired headlights
this evening and did a little cleaning using a plexiglass cleaner
as well as an ammonia based cleaning solution. It appears to me
that what appeared to be dust was actually tiny 'pitting' probably from
day to day driving, just as would be the case with a windshield.
The cleaning helped, you can barely tell when the lights are not
on and its less noticeable than before when the lights are on. I
imagine that a little professional buffing, will make them a whole lot
clearer. Any ideas on how to do this better are most welcomed.
Thanks
