<e28> thrust arm removal

This is a re-post, I posted it just prior to July 4th weekend, maybe not too
many people saw it. I would really appreciate some help, please reply on
the digest or to my personal address.

It's time to replace my thrust arm bushings in the '84 533i again. Last
time I was replacing the entire arm so I didn't care about destroying the
ball joint with the pickle fork. This time I just want to replace the
bushings and re-use the arm so the pickle fork is out. I have the little
ball joint press that will work on tie rods but it doesn't look suitable for
getting to the thrust arm ball joint.
1. What's the best method for removing the arm for the home mechanic?
2. I bought the little red ball joint boots from BMP, are they recommended?
Do they just slip on with no circlip or other sealing fastener?
3. Should anti-seize be used to make it easier next time?
4. Any other tips?

Thanks in advance,
