Steering wheel radio controls

Has anyone ever successfully converted their steering wheel radio 
controls to control an aftermarket stereo? There is a product:

However it currently covers a limited selection of cars. Supposedly 
there are models out there or in the works, that learn the codes from 
your particular car, so brand specific models aren't necessary. I'm 
looking for one of those if possible. Thanks.
