Oil again

BMW now sells 5W-30 instead of the original 5W-40 as the BMW brand synthetic
oil.  I was indirectly informed by the dealer it's Castrol Syntec that's
just relabeled.  5W-40 weight was only available to my knowledge from a
dealer or BMW wholesale parts distibuter, the new 5W-30 makes it easier to
replace with Mobil 1.

Also, I know I bought into the Mobil 1 hype when my Boxster had a sticker of
a quart of Mobil 1 under the trunk lid, I figure if Porsche can trust this
brand with its name, then I'm sold.  But can anyone tell me the real
differance from Mobil 1 or Syntec or any of the 50 other synthetic name
brands on the market?  If it's only the Calvin Klien of oil, why shouldn't I
buy the Levi's?
