Flat spot on 85 528e.

Hello fellow Beemer lovers,
 
  I started having a problem with my 85 528e that I hope someone can
help me with. When I start the engine it seems to have a miss, then
after about 30 seconds white smoke will start to billow from the
exhaust pipe. Then when the car is in gear and I start to move it will
bog down unless I let up on the gas. This only seems to happen when the
engine is cold.
   Any ideas?
