Leather or leathrette?

After having numerous beemers with cloth interior, we had our E39
retrimmed by the local specialist. We have been converted.

We have a very light grey, very similiar to some I've seen on some
E36 cars. We also had edging to match the paintwork. It looks
stunning, and it is very soft (A lot softer than the factory
options). It only takes about 5 mins to wipe the car down, it is not
sticky in the summer (the light colour), and seems to have no
problems with what ever we through at it. A few things to bear in
mind though

1) A light colour stays pretty cool, but picks up dirt easily.
However it is very easy to clean, repels liquids great (Great if you
have kids)

2)We have a couple of small scratches on it, but the car has
recently been used to take refuge to the waste disposal site, and it
looks better with age - the same cannot be said with cloth

3) We have the rear blind - which means the car stays pretty cool
when parked up. Obviously your summers are probably a lot hotter, but
I would just put blinds on the car.

Leatherette is not available in the UK, I guess because it would not
seem in keeping with the brand, to have vinyl, but I would guess that
the vinyl would be worse than leather in the heat, as the leather can
breath, the vinyl cannot.

Just my humble opnion
