E34 525i running rich

I believe my 92 525i (m50) is running rich, in fact the catalytic converter 
is rattling that I must replace.

Approx 40K on oxy sensor and plugs, can't find any apparent vacuum leaks 
however when I lift the oil dip stick during idle, there is no loss of RPM 
which I was told is not normal due to the pressurized system.

Would the idle control valve affect the car running rich, any other 
suggestions?
