weird electrical stuff... help!

hey there!

ok, i've got this beat up '84 318i that i absolutely
love. i was having really strange electrical symptoms
since i'd installed a new battery in dec '99:

1. left turning signal blinks at least fast as it did
    but only the left one.
2. the first two green service indicators are on but
the next one (or is it two?) is not lit and the
    last one is on.

then two weeks ago, i replaced the alternator,
reconnected the power steering, and everything was fine.
until today. suddenly, while i was driving the two
miles from my store to my part time job things got even
stranger. along with both of the above, now i've got:

3. when either blinker is engaged, some of the other
gauges on the instrument panel jump in timing with
the blinker (fast with the left and slow with the
    right).

4. if i turn on the headlights the whole car just
stalls. but, if i notice it stalling and shut the
lights back off quickly enough, the engine roars
back to life as if nothing had happened.

5. when i try to start the car on it's own, all i get
is a clicking sound. but if i test the battery it
is fully charged and output from the alternator is
    normal also.

ok, i just remembered the one other thing that i did. i
got some pagid brake pads, which i installed yesterday,
and they don't have the sensor wire that leads to the
pad wear indicator in the dash.

this has got me completely stymied. i haven't got a
clue where to start or what to think. is this one
problem or more than one.

i live pretty much at the end of the earth and the
nearest bmw type mechanic would be about 4 or 5 hours
from here. so i'm pretty much on my own and for the
first time in the several years i've had this car i feel
way out of my league. HELP!!

thanks... and enjoy!!
