[E36] strength of 95 standard M3 factory wheels?

I'm debating whether or not to use the standard factory rims that 
came with my 95 M3 for road use in New England (the previous owner of 
the car used them exclusively for Solo).

Could anyone comment on the strength of these wheels with 40 series 
tires?  My previous car (GTI) came with 195/50 15s on mesh BBS's from 
the factory, and I was amazed at how soft the wheels were, even with 
extremely careful pothole avoidance.

The M3 is running Modas at the moment, but I prefer the look of a 
wheel that's not totally flush with the tire...
