Haunted E34 ? New owner question

Weird noises are coming from my 89 535I. When I turn on the key but do not
start it, I hear
what sounds like a fan running under the black cover behind the front right
shock tower,
on the passenger side, opposite the fusebox. It is not the same fan as the
heat/a/c.

When I turn the key off, I hear an alternating sound like 2 relays trading
back and forth, 1 second
each, this goes on for 3~ 10 seconds or so, and the sound comes from maybe
behind the stereo,
center of the dash, under the upper vent.

Are these events normal ?
