OBC Question?

To all,

REF: February 2000 Roundel, page 52 "Stand On It!" ,fifth paragraph.

>>"Lommie seemed amused at our confidence in the accuracy of our instruments
and said he relies on the OBC for accurate speed information rather than
trusting the analog meter"<<

First off, yes I am late but understand I just got my February Roundel
because I am stationed in Germany. My question is about the OBC's MPH
reading. Is this the same option I have on my '00 528i's OBC that gives the
average speed? If so how would he, Lommie, get a current speed reading? I
have driven with this on the display and it does just what is says, gives
you an average speed, not current speed. Is there a way to get your current
speed? Or am I to low on the 5er food chain?
