ABS

My ABS light just came on.  Spoke to the local agent here and he said that
there is 'no urgency' and that there the brakes will still work.

I have an idea of what ABS is suppose to do (i.e. prevent locking of the
brakes during hard braking I think).  What I would appreciate are comments
on the real practical disadvantages of not having ABS (e.g. do I need to be
more careful doing sharp cornering, etc).
