'88 735i White clouds in the morning

I'm told by the dealer that lots of white smoke after reaching operating
temperatures is common, if not normal, in 735s of this year. He said it was
due to the cat not getting hot enough quick enough to evaporate the residual
moisture in the exhaust. Boy, do I get clouds, expecially on humid rainy
days! It goes away after about 30 minutes of driving though. Is this really
normal?
