535 Divability Problems

I have an 88 535is and had an 85 535i. Both vehicles
experienced similar problems around 125K.  The in tank
fuel pump stopped working.  Your clue is the change in
driveablity around sharp right hand corners and steep
inclines.  The in tank pump is just a priming pump for
the main fuel pump. With the trunk mat removed you
should hear it operating by jumping the pump relay. 

It is easy to replace (from inside the trunk) and
available at import car parts dealers.  Cost was about
$100.00.  Be sure to get the gaskets and don't attempt
the project when the tank is full. Keep things clean.
