My ///M is back



After 31 days and $4500 I got my baby back. If you all can remember, I
own a 1995 ///M3 with an ERT Super Charger. I was having a bad
overheating problem. As most of you told me, it was the head gasket (not

a warped head, thank God). From the looks of things the supercharger did

not blow the gasket. The gasket looked as if it was deteriorating from
the outside in. My mechanic suspects a bad head gasket from the factory.

While the head was off, I had a shop clean it up a bit and smooth out
the ports (very mild work nothing crazy, not much if any metal came
off), especially on the exhaust side. I also installed RTE head studs.
Last but not least we installed a Schrick 265 intake 256 exhaust cams.
For insurance we replaced the retainers and valve springs. We also put
in the new Bosch 4 plugs (I think that is what they are called.) and a
new thermostat.

The car was at ERT all day today. We "degreed" the new cams, installed
an underdrive pulley,  and spent a few hours on
the dyno burning a custom chip. Before the new cams the car was making
289.4 BHP and 242.5 ft/lbs of torque. I was hoping to
get around 315 HP. Man was I surprised when Chuck came over and showed
my a final run of 333.3 HP and 282.2 Ft/Lbs of
torque. That's 400 + HP at the crank. I am the happiest man alive. The
dyno also shows that there is more HP to be had. The HP curve goes flat
at 6000
rpm. The car is running out of fuel in the top end. With bigger 30 Lb
injectors (I have 24 lb) we should get 350 HP at the wheels. Man, am I
happy.

I will post the Dyno run as soon as I can get a scan of it.

Well now I need to get some bigger injectors. Can I run 9 psi in the car

without an intercooler? Will the car handle 9 psi without an
intercooler? Will the Powerdyne fail at 9 psi? Has anyone run 9 psi on
the list? How long will the Powerdyne last at this boost level?  Will
the car detonate like crazy at 9 psi without an intercooler?
