It's not just the TRXs. Normal all season tyres aren't that
much better. I've driven an E28 and E24 in snow with and
without TRXs. The TRXs do tend to offer less grip but not
much less.

I think it has more to do with the suspension design and
weight distribution of the older cars. My E36 is a LOT
better in snow.
