heater blower question

Hello all,

I have a 1984 533i with a heater blower problem.  It quit working the other
day.  I checked the fuse and it is good.  None of the fan speeds work.  Is
there a common problem with this?  I have only had the car for a few weeks
now and have found many minor electrical problems with it that I will no
doubt tackle in the future.  I heard it is also a problem getting the heater
temperature thermostats to work properly on older BMW's.  When the blower
worked, it was either very cold or very hot. How is this remedied?  Can
anybody suggest good catalog parts suppliers?
