Ping

I have a 92 325is. The engine has a ping under load. When I called my 
mechanic, he says that there is no adjustment he can make whatsoever; the 
timing is done by the computer.

Can anyone provide some advice? The car has less than 100K miles, and I 
think it's unlikely that the engine can have a problem.
