194 2002 L-jetronic

I am installing a 1984 318i fuel injection sytem in my 1974 2002.I have heard 
that a 1988 325i fuel pick up will work in the stock '74 gas tank as a pick 
up and as the fuel gauge sending unit. Does anyone have any information that 
can verify this?It would a great answer to my adaptation of handling the fuel 
feeds for the injection system.
