If you look in your owner's manual, most (if not all) BMWs recommend using 
91 octane or higher.  That's with the standard DME chip.

If you read the instructions that came with your JimC chip you would have 
seen the same fuel listed as a _requirement_ (not a recommendation).

BTW: $1.34 - $1.55 for premium (92-93) octane fuel in the 
Baltimore-Washington area.
