Hood/Trunk emblems

A couple of years ago, I replaced the hood and trunk emblems on my 6.  Under
each roundel was a chunk of putty.  Strange.  Not so said my mechanic.  Add
a chunk of plumber's putty under each he said.  The putty keeps the roundel
from collapsing for those who use the trunk roundel as a contact point and
it displaces road grime and other fine debris that will accumulate under the
roundel.  FWIW
