Mr. Sayeed,
With response to cleaning the wheel caps and the classic BMW Roundel, I
had the same problem and basically went to a dealer, bought the wheel
cap coverings that you can just put over the existing coverings, (maybe
$2-3 each). I think it is an exercise in futility to try and clean the
existing coverings that are "yellowing". Before you install the new
wheel cap coverings, make sure that you clean the existing covering
thoroughly, getting all the dirt, grime, etc. off before you install the
new coverings. I actually had one come off and had to re-install
another one. As far as the Roundel, they are very easy to remove and
install. Each Roundel has a "clip" on each side, at the 3:00 and 9:00
o'clock position. To remove, get a flat-edged screwdriver, I would
suggest possibly taping the end of the screwdriver with masking tape so
as not to scratch the paint, or, better yet, get both a screwdriver and
a wedge made of wood, and carefully lift up the Roundel. It is a fairly
simple job, and it should pop out. Some are more "stubborn" than
others, but I replaced both Roundel's on my '87 325 Coupe, and it really
was worth the money, as it adds to the look of the vehicle. Installing
the Roundel is as simple as pressing it down into the cavity. I would
suggest that you take your BMW to a dealer, because, in my case, the
Roundel on the hood was smaller than the Roundel on the trunk. I had to
make 2 trips. Also, there are various sizes of wheel cap coverings. As
much as I hate giving my cash to a BMW dealer, unless you have another
option, then a dealer will probably have them in stock. Good Luck!
Now, as far as the "mass exodus", I have found the digest to be of great
help, and support it wholeheartedly! If a person wants to unsubscribe,
so be it, but in my case, I have learned a lot from the digest and
consider it a very professional and educational experience with regards
to the BMW automobile.
