Winter Storage questions

Hey,
I'm about to put my car away for winter and I'd like some advice.
First, I'm planning on putting it up on jack stands to get the weight
off the tires.
Obviously, I should place the jack stands right on the rubber jack
points on the car. But where should I jack up the car from? Behind,
in front of, or inside of the jack point? What's the 2nd best point
to jack up the car?
Second, do I need to start my car periodically? My brother suggests
starting it every week, saying that a thin coat of oil will probably
stay on parts for about a week so I want to lubricate them by
starting the car.
Would 15-20 cold starts during the winter be better than simply
letting the car sit alone?
I have an E36 M3 with about 17K miles in case it makes any difference.
Thanks,
Sam
