Some of the noise is definitely due to the 10 year old rubber door seals.
I've heard of people taking the time to replace them and reporting back that
the ambient noise has been significantly reduced.

Keep in mind that E30 body (developed in early 80's if not late 70's) is not
very aerodynamic.
As you get your car closer to 6K rpms in 5th geer, the wind noise _will_ be
drowned out by the engine/rear diff/tire noises.
