What 'e' and 's' stand for

Sort of true...The "E" is actually not an "E" at all...it refers to the sixth 
letter of the Greek alphabet, which is ETA. ETA is the Greek symbol for 
efficiency, much like the symbol Sigma represents 'the sum/total of'.
