e30 trunk lock

The trunk lock mechanism will not allow me to access the trunk. With or without the key, lock pointing north-south or east-west, the button goes in but the trunk will not open. This vehicle has central locking system that will function properly from the control unit.

Have any of you experienced this problem, and if so what is the fix.
