I believe that is a manual unit, correct?  If so, perhaps you can do
better.

There is a company, Zalzar GmbH, that sells electric rear sunshades
that shoot down like a cartoon, cantilevered punching glove. Their
unit that should work on an E36 3er costs 288 / 335 DM (FOB Munich,
VAT not included) for a unit with / without an infrared remote
control.

I am about half way to ordering one just to see what it will do.
