fumes in 325es

My daughter's 1986 325es has been getting fumes in the driver's
compartment.  I had the exhaust system looked at, and a small pinhole
leak fixed at the header "Y".  I'm trying to figure out if the fumes are
coming in through the heater intakes, or what.  Has anyone else had any
problem with this?  If so, what did you do to correct it?
