Peter, I just finished changing my original springs and Boge shocks for
a set of H&R's and Bilstein Sport's. I'll be replacing the the rear
subframe bushings on my E28 over the winter, before the next
track-season so let me know if you have other problems/ solutions along
the way.
 
I too ran into problems when I attempted to remove one of the rear
lower shock mounts... three hours later after much bashing with the big
hammer and torching, I gave-up and hacksawed the bottom shock flange in
half... and then had to use a pipe-wrench to twist-off the core. The
shock mount was totally seized. Hey, I'll bet it's your left side as
well.
