To check to see if it's a dorked Cat, just disconnect it from the exhaust pipe.
Your 528 won't purr like a kitten, but it won't buck like a mule, either.  If
that helps, you should be able to shake the cat (if it's not too heavy) and you
should hear all kinds of crap bouncing around in there.  That should be proof
enough.
