E28 Central Locking
Hi guys
I have an 87 E28 520i European spec(only 60,000 miles as far as I know),
right hand drive.
I've noticed quite a few postings on this list re: "central locking" but try
this one: some of the time the CL on my car works fine, but occasionally it
takes on a life of its own, the car could be parked up, or I could be
driving along and for no apparent reason the CL relay will start switching,
locking and unlocking the doors in quick succession, it goes on for say ten
minutes with the locks just popping up and down. The worst case was on a
camping trip in the UK I parked up outside a small shop in the middle of
nowhere, left the keys in the ignition, engine off, nobody else in the car,
jumped out, shut the door, walked around the car and heard the dreaded
click! Of course sods law dictated that on this occasion they didn't pop
back up again! I eventually managed to break in, but try explaining it to
curious onlookers!
I have an alarm that I retrofitted myself but its not connected to the
locks, seems pointless because of deadlock!
I'm assuming its the main control unit over the front speaker which I've
taken out but they are fairly expensive to replace.
Anyone else ever come across this?
The car is off the road atm, (actually I'm off the road) I'm trying to get
it all sorted for when I start driving again, front end shimmy, some rust
etc to fix.
Sorry for the long post.
Jason
