<E30> Active Check System Question

Just acquired an 88 325iC.  Very nice vehicle, but a few minor issues to
deal with.  Need help troubleshooting one of them.  The Brake lights
fault light is on all the time, even after pressing the check light.
All three brake lights work fine and are the correct German bulbs.  Any
obvious things to look at?  I tried finding the rear lights check relay,
which according to Bentley should be located in the luggage compartment,
near the power antenna, but could not seem to find it.  Any help would
be appreciated.
