A new gas pedal will help as far as it hopping off the mounting balls, but
the stiffness of movement can be caused by a breakdown of the plastic
sleeve (BMW # 35-41-4-440-122 ) on the actuation "crank",the pedal rides
against.
The sleeve just gets pressed on with a channelock pliers. If the actuating
crank moves stiffly, the pivot bushings within the pedal bucket assembly
may be full of debri or corrosion. Sometimes a good spray of WD 40 etc
helps, but often it's necessary to remove and clean/replace those bushings.
