M3 Oil Change

Hi y'all,
When I had a Mercedes, I got a topside pump at a marine store, so that to do 
oil changes I could pump the old oil out the dipstick tube, then change the 
oil filter from the top , too, and add fresh oil. Really neat ! Now, I've 
bought a 97 M3 sedan, and I see it's oil filter is top side too...anyone know 
if I can do oil changes the same way, that is, entirely from the top side ?
