May I request that you mention in the article when the first 2002
fest occoured. It was 10 years ago, I think July 6th (I can check
this), 1989. I found an old poster for the first event in my office
when I had to move offices. It was hosted by the Golden Gate Chapter
of BMW CCA, which was celebrating also its 20th anniversity. I guess
it was also the 20th anniversity of the introduction of the 2002 (is
that right?).

Altho the first event was only announced to California chapters of
the BMW CCA and the Los Angles chapter then member of the BMW ACA, 75
2002s showed up and many supporters who owned other BMW models. I
think that might have been the first time that so many 2002s were in
the same parking lot since the last 2002 left the factory. The
event was held where I work, the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center.

We also managed to round up 5-6 past presidents of the chapter,
including the founding father who was no longer a BMW owner. I was
president of Golden Gate at the time.

My wife and I argue as to whose idea it was to have a 2002 fest.
She claims it was hers. I think it was mine. She says I'm getting
forgetful in my old age, but she is older then me. Anyway, we owned
only a 733i at the time and her classic Datsun 240Z. But I had good
memories of the first BMW I bought which was a '71 2002 bought in
Paris for American delivery.

One thing I remember very well about the first 2002fest was that we
had prizes for 2002s in diferent categories. The one in best
condition, the one with most miles, the oldest, etc. One was the one
with the most rust. A judge came up to me and said: "I can't find one
with any rust, we're going to have to send this prize back east". It
was heard by a 2002 owner recently moved down from Canada. He said:
"I've got rust, let me show you". He got the prize with just a few
spots of rust.

I suppose I could have sent this to just the '02 princess, but I
think others on the list might be intesested. Sorry if I have wasted
your bandwidth.
