HELP: ABS 94 325is

PLEASE HELP

I have a 94 325is with about 90K miles.  The ABS warning light went on
 - hence, my ABS are not working.  Went to a mechanic who hooked the tester 
thing and told me that it read "Relay Switch" fault. He then told me that the 
relay was in the ABS housing and that it was almost impossible to fix it.  
His recommendation was to replace the ABS pump.  He quoted me about $1110 for 
the new pump and about $250 labor.  He then told that he could install a used 
ABS pump and that would cost about $550 including labor.

    WHAT ARE YOUR SUGGESTIONS????

I looked at the ABS Relays in the fuse box and even removed them and 
installed others (from a 92 325i) and the problem still persist.

PS:  About a three weeks prior to the ABS problem,  the same mechanic 
installed 
a DINAN Cold Air Intake and a used M3 muffler.  I also have a DINAN Chip.  
Wheel are AC Schnitzer with Nitto Extreme tires.  The car runs great!  BUT 
Does this relate to the ABS Problem?

ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!
