Appreciation to all who replied privately or to the digest.  The
dealership expects to receive an Alpine unit Tuesday and will call me
to schedule replacement, probably under warranty.  Meanwhile, Lister
Bob Kegel sent me a URL for a wonderful CD player tutorial and repair
site.  Now, if I can just catch that site when it isn't quite so
busy.  It appears to go on and on, dealing with every aspect of CD
player design, function, and repair.
