"I just parked my car and got out and saw gum stuck to the drivers side its 
log and skinny like it stretched out along the bottom of the car.  My 
question is whats the best way to remove it without doing anything to the 
finish."

Try to use Bug & Tartar remover. It happened to my car last week. Someone
put some gum on the driver's left mirror and I successfully removed it.
