administrivia: "is bmw-out@domain.elided still visible"?

i got a message from a list member, indicating that he could still "see"
bmw-out@domain.elided

i replied to him privately, and then decided that since others may well
have looked at their message headers and made the same observation, that it
would be good to share this with the whole list. i have also expanded on
the technical description of the fix:

At 05:04 PM 6/30/99 -0600, wsiemens@domain.elided (Wendall Siemens)
 wrote:

it will still appear in message headers, but if anyone other than majordomo
on the server proper attempts to mail to it, a "user unknown" message will
come back. (that is, majordomo@domain.elided _cannot_ send to bmw-out; only
majordomo on the krusty server is so enabled.)

[the following is for those interested in the technical issues of Unix mail
transport agents]

it's a fairly subtle fix; the mail transport i'm using (exim, web site at
http://www.exim.org/) has some very elegant features. i can actually
maintain multiple alias files for a virtual domain such as digest.net. i
have set up one for public aliases and one for private aliases, and only
local mail from majordomo can reach the aliases in the private alias file.
