Sometimes a vibration remains after an ordinary tire balance, then
disappears after a very careful balance.
An unbalanced driveshaft usually makes itself known at lower speeds.
Your problem is almost certainly worn thrust rod bushings. The
symptoms are a consistent vibration in the steering wheel at a
particular speed in the 50-65 MPH range when the brakes are not
applied (braking sometimes damps the vibration) and which is not
caused by bent wheels or unbalanced tires. This is a very common
problem with E34 cars.
