Valve Cover Seal?

Well I purchased the valve cover gasket and just picked it up today and was 
wondering before I try to tackle the job half-cocked if anybody out there 
has any tips or pointers they'd like to share. Several people suggested this 
as being the potential point of an oil leak and I want to take care of it 
now before it gets the engine compartment all dirty. This will be the first 
"major"(not changing the oil or spark plugs) project I've dont on the BMW 
and hope it will run smoothly and everythign will turn out allright. Is 
there anythign specific to pay close attention to? or is everythign pretty 
cut and dry? THanks for all your help.
