E30 M3 Wheel/tire fitment ?

I've finally decided to quit burning up road tires at the track.  So I call
TireRack.  They tell me that the only wheel/tire combination they can
"guarantee" is 15" Moda F9 with 2255/50 15.

Whoa!  Seems like I see plenty of blokes running 16" and 17" wheels with a
variety of rubber.

(At the moment I'm leaning toward 16" TSW Hockenheim R's - wich I could
remember offset - with 225/50 16 Yoko A032s.)  Any fitment suggestions, war
stories, etc. will be appreciated.
