E34 Odometer Died!

My E34 525i M20 Odometer died on me last week. All the other dials on the
instrument panel are working fine,
all except the odometer. Yeah I now this is a blessing in disguise (illegal
too) but I am interested to know why
it isn't working.

Anyone out there has had this problem before?. Does the odometer have a fuse
or anything similar that can stop
it from working. BTW mine is not the newer electronic odometer, its the
older manual odometer. Any advice or
opinions welcome.
