DIY Dash recover

The dash in my E30 has 5 very large cracks in it and i want to replace
it.
I was wondering how hard of a job would this be to do-it-yourself.
It doesnt look too hard, theres about 6 screws holding the thing in
there.
Anyone with any experience??
Also, i was wondering what oil i could use in the gearbox (manual) to
make it less notchy. The gearbox is about a yr old and i have just had
all the oil seals replaced when the clutch was done, so im sure any oil
put in there (synthetic or not) will not leak out.
Any recommendations?
