windscreen washers

The drivers (RHD) side windscreen washer of my '90 318 doesn't work. I tried
the pin in the hole trick with no joy. There is some sort of valve?, located
in a hard to get at place in the bonnet with strange clips on the tubes
which I can't get off. Is this device repairable, or has anyone had a
similar problem?
