<M42> belt noise information

Symptoms:  belt squeal when accelerating or going over puddles
Cause:  worned out and cracking belts
Solution:  replaced all 3 belts (73k miles)
Cost:  $30 for the 3 belts
Time:  1 hour
Tools:  13 & 19mm wrenches, 5mm allen (to remove the fan blade), 10mm allen
(to adjust compressor belt tensioner)
Difficulty:  Easy

Symptoms:  humming noise around belt/fan area.  increases pitch with
increased RPMs
Cause:  worned out compressor belt tensioner bearing
Solution:  replace tensioner
Cost: $50
Time: 1 hour
Tools:  13 & 19mm wrenches, 5mm allen (to remove the fan blade), 10mm allen
(to adjust compressor belt tensioner)
Difficulty:  Easy
